- Wentworth Rail Trail Bridge Crossing – Presentation and Discussion
- Asked by Councillor Farr and City to analyze 2 options for Rail Trail crossing
- One is option for Traffic light. Funding is available and can do this now for spring/summer (would include some other safety features).
- Second option is Straight Trail Alignment, which we’re $400,000 short of funding, won’t be built right away in order to get other funding
- Second option will be a slow grade, $1.5 million dollar bridge will be 2.5 years before starting to build. Some Councillors who are connected to the trail have pledged to be partner> Clr Farr indicated he is looking for 1/5th funding from other wards that touch/connect with this as an access point, all but one Clr okayed partnering for funding. But it’s to get funding doable overtime. Would be annualized funding.
- 3rd option where we purchase house and demolish to improve sight lines for cars driving down the access
- Questions from SCA member: Can CP pitch in with funding since the run along trail? Clr Farr states Doesn’t hurt to ask. Additional safety measures? Could likely include rumble strips. Pedestrian Crossing Option Design-is there a design available, must be different design? No firm design plan yet, residents would have a say, have already added in other safety considerations
- Ideally should have an option to have an accessibilty on both sides of the bridge
- Could we add knock down strips to slow traffic down where Charlton meets Wentworth
- We could wait to decide down the road, seek out funding, continue to seek out support
- Also, could start with the traffic light and wait. Overall there was support future construction for the bridge to pursue additional funding and support.
- ACTION: SCA Vote on which option for Rail Trail Bridge. Motion moved to install light for now and pursue option for a bridge down the road.
- Diane moved motion (see above), Matt to second Vote – 11 support, 1 abstain and 1 against
- Could be concerning to get funding in coming years with different councillor, different ward
- Speaks to Trails Master Plan, could there be more funding coming for trails in the future
