- Introductions
- Matt G opened the meeting with a review of values, mission and vision and started introductions
- Financial Update (Dave)
- Dave reviewed balance of accounts; only changes to the general account were bank maintenance fees
- Bank account is in great shape due to fundraising efforts and a generous donation from Tarek/Salesforce
- StinZine account left with $813 and one issue left to pay for

- Margaret requested an invoice from SCA for the last print run of the Stinzine

- Wentworth Rail Trail Bridge Crossing
- Report back from staff on road crossing at Rail Trail to address safety crossing
- Motion to investigate a pedestrian bridge and signal. Staff will report back in Dec.
- Will have specs for display to share with public and will disperse via email
- Timeline will be for 2018 , 2017 pedestrian crossing in the meantime
- 3 designs will be shared for review. Designs will be accessible
- Question: Will other construction activity be considered with bridge construction (i.e. LRT, bike lane construction).
- Will this all be balanced and keep streets safe – short answer, yes
- Jason Farr offered that we will have a meeting with LRT and impacts of construction
- Also, input session on pedestrian bridge meeting in January 2017
- Ward Boundary Review
- Ward Boundary review decisions to come. Recommendation on Ward changes may positively impact Stinson
- Ward Boundary review – 2 concepts 16 ward boundary or 15 and rejig break up 3 wards on the mountain.
- On one recommendation, where we keep having 15 wards, Stinson would be moved to Ward 3
- If a new ward is created, to have a total of 16 wards, Stinson will stay in Ward 2
- Will be respecting the process of choosing the new boundaries
- Jason Farr suggested to have a meeting with himself and Matthew Green to further discuss impact of Stinson becoming a part of Ward 3
- Jennifer Pearson, Hamilton Community Foundation – Grad Track Program
- Here as a FYI to good things happening in our community
- Grad Track is an Early Intervention program with middle aged school children to help them to see a future beyond high school
- Currently working with Gr 6 students at St Pats and Hillcrest Mainly working with disengaged youth
- Aim is to connect students to explore opportunities that will help them in the future, working on goals, skills etc
- New program from HCF via Abacus program
- Guest: Duane Dahl, Boys and Girls Club of Hamilton
- Have been operating summer camp program here for 4 years
- Started in east end of Hamilton by Kiwanis Club, they fund the BGC
- BGC across Canada and US and Ellis Ave and 30 different location plus seasonal locations, such as Central Rec Centre
- Provide barrier free programming, on a membership basis ($5 per year-will waive). 4000 kids access at Ellis Ave
- Kids can access all drop in programs and sign up for registered programs
- Programs offered vary such as homework help, engagement programming, swimming lessons
- Operate in partnership with the City of Hamilton and community partnerships to deliver programming
- Believe in participant voice and choice, kids inform programming
- Expertise in relationship building and environment for kids – we can access a lot of other services and bring them in to access
- Stinson families are coming into their facilities to access programming
- Would like to try in the summer to engage with youth in Stinson
- In addition to summer time, would like to explore offering other services. We are interested in working with you in the neighbourhood.
- ACTION: Add to next agenda Stinson residents to hold discussion around engaging with Boys and Girls Club, ask Farr and Dahl to pursue
- Guest: Kelly Stanhope, Path Employment Services
- Path is located downtown, running for 42 years- to help people obtain employment and employment goals
- Work with individuals with disabilities
- Looking to do more outreach into community to better meet the needs of individuals facing barriers
- Currently, would like to make community aware that we are willing to go into community and establish space in the hubs
- Preliminary discussions at this point but will need to have input in the future from community
- Have been connecting with some of the group homes/residential care facilities to offer services
- Safe Streets Mural Update with Misha and Eleni
- Art project that they are planning on the Claremont access.
- Misha is a Hamilton artist and working with Eleni on the project
- Will be painting the snail mural as a sign to slow down and promote safe streets
- Started as an idea of 100 in 1 day, would like to make more permanent
- Misha used to be part of Stinson, aware of speeding and aggressive driving from living on Victoria
- Will be working with Sunil to figure out steps to take to make the mural happen and will work on a Small Project Grant
- Endorsement Process Discussion (Dave)
- Dave reviewed a proposed pilot endorsement process – not unlike small grants process
- Looking for a small working group to sit together to review together and have ready to try for January
- Small working group will be a Documentation process
- ACTION: Lee, Tim, Karl, Tarek and Sunil to participate on the working group
- Next month will review and take comments into consideration and ratify for Jan 2017
- Consider adding to the Terms of Reference
- Beautiful Alleyways (Karl)
- Karl is on the committee for Beautiful Alleyways
- ACTION: Has been looking at alleyways for murals, please contact Karl if you have ideas for mural locations
- Stinson Little Free Library Update (Karl)
- Little free library was damaged, but looking to replace it
- Karl put in a grant application for $500 and is connected with an artist who will make a little free library with metal to prevent damage
- Stinson Creative Lab will support brightening up the box
- Ice Rink (Lee)
- Mike M Carter Park Adopt a Park program captain
- Mike and Lee have been working on plans for this years’ ice rink
- Will be building an ice rink with boards and water barrier – will be a temporary structure
- Jason Farr will cover full costs – Will need a receipt and reimburse
- ACTION: Need 6-10 steady volunteers to help with flooding the rink
- Outside for 1-3 hours spraying the pad at night, need to have 2 people working together on any given evening
- Please ask your neighbours if they would be interested in helping out

- Will put in the StinZine to seek volunteers
- Matt G spoke about his experience as a volunteer in the past-was positive, took more time at the beginning to start flooding
- Volunteers do not have to be from Stinson
- Community Updates/Comment Period
- StinZine
- Latest issue of the StinZine is ready and needs volunteers for distribution
- ACTION: Talk to Ben or Margaret if you are interested in volunteering to distribute the StinZine
- Theme of this issue is “Our neighbourhood, Our plan”
- December issue is about services available in Stinson
- International Village BIA Support
- Supporting Downtown businesses and support during LRT construction
- Nov 26th Shop the Downtown, with International and Downtown BIAs
- Free Shuttle buses
- Victorian Christmas on Dec 2nd-gather a group in Stinson to meet at Carter Park and walk downtown
- Tree on Blythe removed
- Should there be community input when a tree is taken down?
- If City installed, there is not community input
- Can be a liability issue
- Dave will get in touch with Forestry – generally Forestry does not want to take trees down
- Need to get more advocacy around getting more trees, why they would be removed, etc
