SCA Meeting Minutes

Land Acknowledgment: We want to recognize and acknowledge that we meet on the traditional territories of the Mississauga of the Credit River and the Six Nations Haudenosaunee and within the lands protected by the Dish with One Spoon wampum agreement.

Electing an interim co-chair

The executive had selected a volunteer (Christina Babcock) and asked for the communities’ support to elect Christina as interim cochair until October when a co-chair can be elected for a typical term.

Motion brought for a vote, seconded. Unanimous support (no nays or abstentions).

Brags and drags
-
What I like about Hamilton discussed… some of which included: essence of community, small neighbourhoods that are awesome, vocal about what they believe in, welcoming and wanted, nicer, feel at home, lots of discussion about the city, the Stinzine, and strangers returning lost items

100in1 Day collaboration

Jay Carter explained the goal and purpose of 100in1 Day.

This year 100in1 Day is happening Saturday June the 2ndwith 100 different free activities across the city.

Wrap party happening June 8th – founder of 100inDay will be speaking at 630pm during Art Crawl

Christina talked about her previous projects of the fireflies and yarn bomb stop signs

Plan Local Update
-
Reviewed the mandate of Plan Local this year which is that ALL residents of Ward 2 are able to identify spots for improvement through online voting and/or a drop box (one is located at the Central Memorial Rec Centre)

Those most popular spots will be chosen for final projects and submitted to council for approval
-

The theme this year is BUILD BEAUTIFUL STREETS AND SPACES with $155,000 available to the Stinson Neighbourhood
-
Small ideas can be funded really well through this process.

Email blasts will be sent out to Stinson community members with mail drops and postering as well to help promote engagement
-
A question was raised about how the ward boundaries change will affect this? The answer: there is not a certain answer to this but Karl provided some information about how this will work logistically.

Dave asked that at the next Plan Local meeting the SCA could help to support facebook promotion. Most members in agreement.

BBQ Date Picking

Terek reviewed that in previous years the event has including the Reptile Zoo and bands in the park

A small grant will be submitted next month and they will be in need of volunteers as well

The group chose Saturday June 23rd, 2018; 11am – 2/3pm at Carter Park with the food being served by noon

Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra could be a partner for this event!

Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra Children’s Event

Diana Wier – every summer in Burlington there is a performance and music literacy

Performances in the park, or the BBQ could be a place to collaborate with the HPO

This type of children’s event could be able to access the previously earmarked funds
-

Roseanne from Carisma Church: May 23rd 6-730pm info night for youth and parents for hiring camp staff for their summer programming
-
May 17th – All neighbour meeting with a focus on safe and livable streets
-
The Kirkendall Neighbourhood Association (KNA) is hosting the event at McMaster’s Innovation Park (MIP). Doors will open at 6:30 pm and the event starts promptly at 7 pm with the goal of ending at 9 pm.
