Those in attendance shared their views on what collaboration means to them. Excellent discussion! Wondering about how residents of a neighbourhood can turn into a member of a community.

3.Crime reports

Sergeant Jennifer McFeggan from the Hamilton Police Services (HPS) reviewed the stats – please see attached report for these specifics

It was identified that the community garden may need extra patrols given previous thefts
- Please pass along any ideas or tips with exec who can pass it on to the HPS

Graffiti in the area was discussed as a problem needing addressing.

Ben asked about holes in the fences along the railways being repaired to help decrease crime. Sergeant McFeggan shared that railways are not always receptive to the collaboration, but it can help sometimes.
4. Corktown Update

Cameron presented on behalf of the Corktown Planning and Development Subcommittee
-
To help keep residents up to date about any development that is going to impact the community. They will present it each month at their neighbourhood meeting
- If anyone is interested in being a part of a Planning and Development Subcommittee please let us know! Cameron can help support you!

Alaine had some ideas about how to identify where in the engagement process the developments are that he shared with Cameron

195 Wellington Medallion Properties could be a space to collaborate between Corktown and Stinson neighbourhoods.

New this year: $500 for meeting refreshments provided in a lump sum, and people must keep receipts for the fiscal year

Good question from Tina about surplus refreshment funds and what happens to them -> they are transferred to next year and then topped up

Anyone in the room has the responsibility to bring people back to the values of the group should the discussion. Grant and Clayton volunteered to be able to help be in charge at first.

It was discussed how we can do this in the room:

The idea is to test out a few options: clicker, object. Please bring your objects to next month’s meeting.

John Howard can help with this process as well as this is something that they work with a lot.

BBQ – $299 from King @ Victoria Canadian Tire as they will give us the display model at cost – Able to be stored in the shed

Reach out to Tarek about BBQ as he has been in charge of the past BBQs and may have preferences!

Discussion about the small grant process. It was stressed that the community would like to engage more people in the process and make it more inclusive. We don’t want it to just be the “unicorns” so that we can build capacity in others.

Grant writing workshop was decided as something that was wanted. This could be held at the beginning of the next meeting?

It was also suggested that grant writing could happening in the meeting to help promote engagement/accessibility.

Clayton raised the issue that there is a needle problem in the area – and wondering what community level engagement could look like.

Public health is no longer in charge of removal and this has been switched to Roads

Carter Park is vulnerable to this issue and there have been needles found there
