Annual General Meeting – Oct 13th, 2016
Executive Team Report
A warm welcome to everyone at the Stinson Community Association’s 2016 Annual General Meeting! We appreciate having the opportunity to celebrate the past year of coming together as a community and kicking us off for another fantastic year in the spirit of Collaboration, Engagement, Respect, Trust, Inclusiveness and Transparency.
Community building requires the keen efforts of people with passion, ideas and leadership and Stinson is fortunate to have many residents who possess these qualities. This year, there were a number of events and activities some of which were led by the SCA while others were by Stinsonites who wanted to launch their own ideas in our neighbourhood. In light of that, we consider this year of the SCA to be “the Year of the Members” since we saw some great initiatives and work happen as a result of so many Stinson volunteers! The past year’s SCA/Stinson residents’ accomplishments includes:
- “Broke ground” on the new Dog Park and Naming process for the Rail Trail dog park – name decided with public engagement and in collaboration with Corktown and Stinson Neighbourhood Associations
- Celebrated the re-opening of Carter Park in the fall of 2015 and the unveiling of the mural in summer 2016 – a BBQ celebration was held in the summer
- Built the beloved Little Free Library which was opened in the Carter park
- Participated in the Safe Streets themed PlanLocal process (thanks Eleni!) resulting in projects that will make Stinson streets more safe
- Continuation of Songs from the Bishop – as always a Stinson hit!
- Continuation of the StinZine – another Stinson treasure
- New and returning 100in1 day events – including the widely praised Fireflies in the Night and more…
- Created Stinson 101, which is a new event aimed at increasing community outreach and engagement
- Installation of new awnings on Central Memorial Rec Centre to provide new signage
- Welcomed many new faces to the community and saw new members initiating their own ideas, such as Eleni (Safe Streets), Margaret (LRT), Amanda (Movie Night)
- Initiated the Stinson Creative lab – and held art in the park events/activities to build more opportunities for arts engagement in the neighbourhood
- Capping off the end of the year with starting the process of updating the Stinson Neighbourhood Action Plan (SNAP)
- Celebrating the awesomeness of Stinson with neighbours, far and wide, who came out to join us at any of the above mentioned activities
- Shared a fond farewell to our previous Community Developer Lyna Saad and warmly welcomed in Sunil Angrish our new Community Developer
- And more…
We look forward to another stellar year in Stinson, with the anticipation of meeting more residents (new and yet to connected with) and welcoming them to the SCA, having completed our updated SNAP to provide us with some new direction and continuing to welcome members to share their ideas and to find ways to get involved in making Stinson even more awesome than it already is to call home!
Thanks kindly!
