- Joanna was unavailable to report due to passing of her grand-mother. The next movie night is this Saturday (15th). The movie this moth is the original “Little Princess” with Shirley Temple.
- On a Button activity. Linda reported that we have borrowed a button maker from the SPRC to try out making buttons before we actually purchase a button maker. The grant was approved for publicity & promotion and the cheque has now been received. Everyone was asked to put suggestions on post-it notes or flip-chart of what kinds slogans they would suggest for promoting Stinson & the SCA. In addition; some buttons were made to promote ‘Songs of the Bishop” as well as the SCA logo. These samples were taken to tonight’s Songs of the Bishop and will also be taken to this Saturday’s Movie Night to be handed out.
Lyna’s Updates:
- The “Event Library” is now officially open at the Tool Lending Library. The items are available for rent from anyone with membership. If the SCA wishes to book items from the Event Library for official SCA events – they can do so for FREE under the following conditions:
- Subject to availability of equipment (not already booked)
- MUST be booked at least 2 weeks’ in advance
- MUST be booked via Lyna at SPRC so she can confirm that it is an official SCA event
- SPRC is looking to develop a Leadership training program for community associations. There will be a kick-off planning meeting at the CPRC office on Monday, August 24th at 6:30pm. Anyone interested is welcome to participate.
- Opportunity to hire a social work student to work through SPRC with Residential Care Facilities in the Stinson area. With the large number of facilities in the Stinson area; the group indicated that we supported this endeavor. Lyna will be interviewing a candidate on Thursday (20th) at 1:00pm. If anyone from the SCA is interested in participating in the interview – they should contact Lyna.
Next meeting (Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015) …. Location to be determined
Erica informed us that the Rec Centre is closed for the 1st 2 weeks of Sept. and therefore we need to find alternative location for our next meeting. Everyone was in agreement that the Good Sheppherd, 143 Wentworth St. S. would be good location. Erica to confirm it’s availability.
The formal part of the meeting agenda ended. Some of the members went to the Songs of the Bishop to hear the music and hand-out the trial Songs of the Bishop buttons. The remainder of the group held a workshop to review and give comments concept drawing for the Central Memorial Rec Centre facelift [awning & courtyard parkette]. These comments will be given to the Committee to review with the Architect. Erica will set-up a meeting for the Committee to meet with the Architect in the next few weeks. It is important to note that there are monies already approved for signage for the Rec Centre. Any proposals for the parkette may or may not get funding approved; but it was recommended that it was best to give a full design concept to the City when getting the signage approved so that the potential final design would be understood. The parkette could potentially be approved immediately or as a phase 2 project.
