That ominous feel as we entered the deserted Carter Park that cold crisp night. We weren’t there to find golden slippers, cows as white as milk or magic beans, but we were there to create a little magic of our own. Here a group of fellow Stinsonites were gathering to transform this baron parkland into a vibrant winter wonderland bustling with skaters.
Shovels in hand the process began as Mike Montreuil and Jason Dymkowski paced out the perimeter. With the help of her children Karsen and Mia, Katherine Dymkowski, Linda Matthews and Mike Metel smoothed out the surface and created a frame. Along the snow covered ground the hoses were rolled out, coupled together and charged until we were finally ready for the anticipated first burst of water sparkling in the evening light. Layer upon layer a sense of accomplishment grew as this group worked together to create a place where the community can come together. Weather permitting we hope to have the rink fully functioning by the end of January so dig out those skates, bundle up the family and come create some magic moments of your own.
Also on the “Ice Team” are Matt Grande and Bruce Matthews. If you are available to assist in the ongoing maintenance of this community project contact Mike at [email protected]
