It is the role of the Area Crime Manager to liaison between Community’s and The Hamilton Police department by attending community meetings, assessing incoming calls and statistics. Sgt. Burbidge will communicate residents concerns and priorities to the police department, will recommend actions, as well as assign additional enforcement officers when required. He will assist with co-ordinated efforts to implement enforcement programs, and projects as required, or recommended.
Community Residents and members brought up neighbourhood concerns about speeding, having additional police presence, bike thefts, cyclist lack of road safety with motorist and the availability and need for volunteers at the community police centers. Sgt. Burbidge encourages residents to report crimes in progress, suspicious activities/persons, and any undesirable criminal activities in the neighbourhood.
Introduction to our Ward 2 Councilor, Jason Farr.
After listening to the community concerns raised with the Area Crime Manager Counsilor Farr will continue to follow-up with the Crime Management Team.
It was discussed in open Q&A the repainting of bike lanes will occur sometime in the spring, at which time the repair of the roadway for the bike lanes will be looked into as well.
Residents brought up sidewalk curbs that have been repaired with asphalt; it is expected that they will be repaired with concrete in the spring. Replacing missing pipe caps in the sidewalks, Counsilor Farr anticipates answers soon.
Snow removal and Garbage days were discussed with a list of inconveniences, and concerns from the residents. Councilor Farr has been working towards resolution and compliance for sometime and in a commitment for answers has proposed a special meeting night, on date to be determined, between a city representative from those departments and the residents of Stinson.
Councilor Farr brought up that soon as a part of an annual allotment towards 1-8 additional budgetary monies to be used for immediate neighbourhood improvements and actions. It is committed by Councilor Farr that Carter Park has approx. $373K allocated for Play/Swing equipment, Lighting, Benches, and other points on the Stinson Neighbourhood Implementation plan. Memorial Recreation Center will benefit from a patio expansion and revamp, including mural and additional neighbourhood study for a sum of approx. $35K.
