Action A.1.1: Create a “Carter Park Makeover Working Group” of residents and staff to oversee park design by bringing SNAP vision to the table
Action A.1.2: Undertake a Carter Park/Central Memorial Green Space Extreme Make-over including but not limited to:
Public Art mural on Claremont Access,Enhancement of gateway, Plantings and naturalize areas, Street Furniture, Picnic Areas, Lighting, Bike Racks, Add “No smoking: by-law” signs to Carter Park, New surface for basketball court, Removal of old baseball fence, Removal of graffiti
Action A.2.1: Create a working group of residents and staff to oversee the development of a Civic Square at Central Memorial Recreation Centre and Carter Park, including:
Murals at the overpass at Stinson & Central Memorial Rec Centre & under the Claremont Access; Art, signage and lighting on façade of Central Memorial Recreation Centre along Stinson Street; Community Garden; Sunken Garden in Courtyard off Stinson St at Recreation Centre; Sunken Garden in Courtyard off Stinson St at Recreation Centre; Furniture on deck above same courtyard (stackable chairs, bistro tables, etc); Street food/drink vendors (or snack shack in park); Washrooms; BBQ/s in Carter Park; investigate increased parking near the park; “Wayfaring” to connect Carter Park with Central Memorial Recreation Centre; Redevelopment of former swimming pool courtyard behind Recreation Centre
Action A.2.2: Work with Anti-Graffiti task force to develop strategies for combating graffiti by creating a dedicated graffiti wall that can be repainted over time.
Action A.2.3: Implement crime prevention through design, awareness and police presence.
Action A.2.4: Investigate a leash-free dog park.
Action D.2.1: Co-ordinate with Recreation Centre Marketing Team to expand use of recreational facilities.
Action D.2.2: Investigate creation of a year round social gathering location i.e., Stinson Café/Bistro
Action D.3.1: Engage Recreation Centre in promoting and enhancing programs (quick Win – Stinson Summer Camp for Kids).
Action D.3.3: Investigate subsidized child care to facilitate parental use of Rec Centre / Park Programs.
